Some Unforgettable Dogs
"They came in big packages and small, brave and shy, smart and slow-witted, mannerly and destructive, affectionate and independent. If I wanted to purge my memory of all but the best, I couldn't. Each dog is unforgettable."

Ole Miss Belle. She hunted for nine years and had her only puppy just in time, at age 10. Belle was sired by STR Nat. Ch. Tricky Dick Jim, and out of Old Stock.

Hot Socket.
Had eight field trial placements, six of them amateur all age. He was sired by Ch. Hightone Red Rocket and out of Jubilee Ann.

Jubilee Ann
. Pictured here as a puppy. Whelped in 1956, she was the foundation for my kennel of hunting Setters. Both of her grandsires were field trial greats: Ch. Bobbitt's Peerless Pride and Ch. Commander's Hightone Beau.

Brownie. Prototype of "Adel" in The Hit, was an old style German Shorthair. She pointed deer as well as birds, and once dragged in a big shoat she'd found, with it squealing and struggling every step.

Dell. Retrieved two birds from this point. That night she whelped 11 puppies and raised them all. She was by the winner Turnto's Hightone Pete.

Joy.
When her shed flooded, she saved her puppies by dropping them into the only safe place: a standing nail keg she couldn't retrieve them from.
